Yabber.net was a safe, UGC-supported, online community for 6-13yr olds, and served as the pilot membership program for YTV. Developed late 2000 in just under 6 months, Yabber.net gave each member a suite of (pre-dating the term) social networking tools such as webmail, diaries (blogs), message boards, live group chat, instant-messaging, polls, and member-submitted articles. At it’s height, Yabber.net had ~200K members, but was shut down in late 2004 and focus was shifted to building the YTV.com community. I was the Designer, IA and Builder for the initial launch of the site, and later served as Art Director.
